It’s national volunteers week, a time to recognise the amazing contribution volunteers make to the Keighley community.
Each day we are focusing on the incredible work of volunteers within some of our member organisations. Today it is the turn of the amazing team of volunteers at Fresh Waters Christian Charity shop.
What began as a humble table-top sale in 2010 has grown into a thriving charity operation that’s making a real difference to the world’s poorest communities. Fresh Waters Christian Charity Shop started as a family mission to raise money for providing clean water to those who need it most. The charity shop operates from a permanent shop on Bridge Street Keighley and a furniture warehouse on Goulbourne Street, and at the time of writing they have a pop up shop in the Airedale Centre (opposite the works) – a real treasure trove of vinyl, books and retro clothing.
Luke has taken over the reins from his grandfather and manages the charity shops with the invaluable support of 14 amazing volunteers. This dedicated team tackles every aspect of the operation, from furniture collection and delivery to warehouse work, sorting donations, helping customers, and working on the till.
Proceeds from the shops go directly to Samaritan’s Purse, a global charity that provides safe water for children, families, and communities in the world’s poorest nations. The organization is often among the first responders to disasters worldwide, making the fundraising work even more vital.
“Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Fresh Waters Christian Chairty. I have such a good team of volunteers behind me, enabling us to raise much needed funds for Samaritans Purse.”
Luke, Manager at Fresh Waters Christian Charity Shop
